FRESH BLOOD. NEW IDEAS. FOR THE GRANITE STATE.
Charlie Hough
Republican Candidate for U.S. Senate
School bus driver, Uber driver, volunteer firefighter, and Cranberry Meadow Farm owner. Former global pharma executive who fixed medicine pricing and gave free drugs to millions. New Hampshire deserves fresh ideas — not worn-out politics.
Why New Hampshire Needs Charlie Now
Jeanne Shaheen has done a great job as US Senator for New Hampshire representing District 1, but we need some fresh blood and some new ideas. I have lived in New Hampshire for seven years, and I have brought new ideas to our state.
I have been a school bus driver for two years, I am an Uber driver, and I am a volunteer firefighter. I also run a small business in Peterborough, New Hampshire called Cranberry Meadow Farm.
I spent my business career as a senior executive at one of the top five pharmaceutical companies in the world. My most significant business position was Head of OTC Pharmaceuticals for North America - $1 billion in sales. I know how to run a successful business in a very competitive industry.
Then I shifted to be Head of Corporate Responsibility for my company. In that role, I helped establish a differential pricing strategy, where countries would pay for medicine based upon their ability to pay — not based upon how much we could price gouge countries like the USA.
I was also Head of the Free Medicine Program, where in the US if you earn less than four times the poverty level, you would receive our patented medicines for free. We need a person to represent our state that can bring these kinds of new ideas to our state.
Fresh Ideas vs. Worn-Out Politics
The two other main candidates for the Republican Primary are Scott Brown and John Sununu. Both are experienced and accomplished senators — Scott from Massachusetts and John from New Hampshire. But unfortunately, they are "has beens." They served their time in politics, and they accomplished some limited things. So why do we want to put a worn out old person back in the Senate to represent our great Granite State? We need some new ideas!
I am not a career politician. I am a New Hampshire neighbor with proven executive experience and the energy to fight for you.
My Priorities for a Stronger New Hampshire
Affordable Health Care For Those Who Have Earned It
I believe that hard-working Americans who contribute to our system have earned the right to access affordable, high-quality health care. Our system should prioritize those who work hard and play by the rules, rather than pushing for universal government-run healthcare programs.
While we protect the care you've earned, we also need to reign in out-of-control pharmaceutical prices. We should not pay twice the price for a medicine than Switzerland when Swiss per capita income is two times the USA.
Fair Taxes That Protect Working Families
I believe we should keep taxes low in our country and in the great Granite State of New Hampshire. I am a strong supporter of Governor Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire. She also wants to keep taxes low. With that said, I believe some taxes should be raised.
I believe there should be no cap on income that is taxed for Social Security. Some years in my career, I made over $1 million. When Social Security tax stopped getting charged after I made $185,000 in a year in today's dollars, yes I was happy. But would it have mattered if I was still charged 6.2% above that $185,000? No, I would not have noticed it. We need to save Social Security, which is maybe going broke soon. This step would help.
Secondly, anyone earning over $1 million per year should pay an additional 5% federal income tax on the amount over $1 million that they earn. This is a small amount for them, but it will be a large amount for our country.
Strength & Prosperity
These are my two main priorities that I would like to focus on in my early years as a Senator. I have others, such as Border Security, Diplomacy Through Strength, Domestic Energy Production, and several other issues.
